Agile & Lean Program Management: Scaling Collaboration Across the Organization at Agile 2015 with Johanna Rothman

Johanna Rothman, Agile author extraordinaire, stops by to talk books with Agile Amped. First, she talks about her recently released “Predicting the Unpredictable: Pragmatic Approaches to Estimating Cost or Schedule”. Says Rothman, “Unless you’re estimating really small stuff that’s really close to you, your estimate is wrong… You can have predictability in the short term and you can have flexibility in the long term…” This book discusses how to make useful estimates and what to do if and when your estimate is wrong, including using confidence intervals and percentages.

Bonus: Johanna compares frameworks and a principle approach, specifically why the former works for technical problems with a deterministic answer while the latter works for people solving complex problems.
